If I save everyone who falls from a skyscraper, won’t building owners feel they can leave their old railings unrepaired? — resulting in even more accidents??
On the other hand, should I allow an innocent man to die, just to teach building owners responsibility?
Why can’t I give building owners the benefit of the doubt? I should worry about my own responsibilities, not theirs! It can’t be wrong to save a life!
Ah, but aren’t I being disingenuous? — simplifying the problem to ease my own conscience? I KNOW that building owners in this city are lazy and corrupt!
How about this: I’ll save this falling man, then personally visit every building owner in the city to remind them about railing maintenance. Ah, but that’s time I — and only I — could be spending saving lives in more urgent situations…
